Visitor statistics

Happy Map counts page views on its public map and information pages to understand whether the map is useful. We record the day, page category and map city, a broad referral label and a random browser identifier that changes each California day. We do not record names, email addresses, precise or inferred visitor location, URL queries, search text or full referring URLs.

The daily browser identifier is stored in your browser and hashed on the server. IP addresses are not saved; a daily hash is briefly used to limit automated requests. Records older than 90 days are removed on the next counted page view. Reports show only aggregates, and the server requires the owner's existing statistics password before returning them. No visitor records are exposed through the public website.

We respect Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals. You can also opt out in this browser below. A “visitor” is an approximate browser count for one California day, not an identified person. Repeat visits on another day or device count again. We do not measure sessions. The city is the map page being viewed, not where a visitor lives. Browser storage, content blockers and automated traffic affect the counts. We skip collection when browser storage is unavailable, and filter recognizable bots, but cannot guarantee every counted request comes from a person.
